PEER COUNSELING

Peer counseling at The House may occur in person (drop in counseling) or over the telephone (phone counseling). Generally , counseling includes referrals to appropriate resources for follow-up.

Drop in Counseling

There are two peer counselors are available at The House from 8 am -5 pm, Monday thru Friday. No appointment or paperwork is necessary to be seen. Students can drop in anytime and receive immediate attention. The House provides a quiet place where students and peer counselors can talk.

The House counseling phone is answered from 8 am -5 pm, Monday thru Friday, except over winter and spring breaks and summers. Students unable or reluctant to visit The House in person can speak with a peer counselor over the phone. This service allows students an opportunity to discuss problems while providing anonymity.

Referral and Information

Counselors at The House have a working knowledge of community resources available to students. If you are in need of finding the right resource, just give The House a call. Peer counselors will assist you in accessing these services.

Additionally, The House offers a wide array of self-help pamphlets and brochures. Topics include, but are not limited to: “surviving your freshmen year”; “coping with depression”; “support for coming out”; “combating loneliness”; “addressing diversity on campus”, etc. Stop by and help yourself to these valuable materials.
